We achieved the highest record for a mass-produced electric vehicle by participating in the ‘Pikes Peak Hill Climb’ held in Colorado, USA.
The Peak Hill Climb, also known as the ‘Race Above the Clouds,’ is the second-oldest motorsport in the United States, first started in 1926, and is a historic competition that allows you to showcase the performance of your vehicle while climbing up and down the peak of Pikes Peak in the Rocky Mountains.
The race starts at 2862m above sea level and ends at the finish line at 4302m. It consists of an uphill section with a total length of 19.99km and a total of 156 curved corners.
It boasts a level of difficulty that can be completed only when not only the vehicle's performance but also durability and stability are secured.
Hyundai Motor Company participated in this Daeho exhibition using the high-performance electric vehicle IONIQ 5N with modified and non-modified mass-produced electric SUV/crossover vehicles.
The IONIQ 5 N TA Spec has the same high-capacity battery and high-output motor system as existing mass-produced vehicles, and the output has been increased to a maximum of 687 horsepower through software changes.
In addition, it is equipped with a motorsports-specific package such as shock absorbers, 18-inch slick tires, and aerodynamic performance enhancement design.
In this competition, Hyundai Motors especially attracted a lot of attention by completing the approximately 20 km course with excellent results without any performance degradation through optimal battery temperature control despite being an electric vehicle, and by utilizing the 'N Active Sound' function, which is similar to the actual engine sound.
