World’s First 48V Metal-Coated Heated Windshield Developed

Genesis is testing the future of heated windshield technology with the world’s first 48V metal-coated heated glass system developed by Hyundai Motor Group.

Designed to make winter driving safer and more convenient, Genesis’ metal-coated heated glass removes 100% of the windshield’s surface ice in less than five minutes, more than three times faster than conventional systems in sub-zero temperatures.

The technology is designed to improve the thermal energy management system of electric vehicles, which regulates the temperature of key components including the battery and motor.

The metal-coated heated glass has a much faster defrosting time than conventional air conditioning systems, and consumes approximately 10% less power.

The metal coating layer has a high-performance solar reflective function, which blocks more than 60% of total solar energy, helping to lower indoor temperatures by 2-3 degrees in summer.

In cold and hot weather, energy efficiency is improved, allowing for better use of interior comfort features, and driving range can also be increased.

The technology could eliminate the need for full-screen air conditioning systems and create new possibilities for bold head-up display technology and augmented reality navigation systems.

While it has not yet been confirmed whether this technology will be applied to future Genesis models, Hyundai Motor Group has already applied for a patent for metal-coated heated glass in major markets for future product applications.
