😶 Hyundai's next-generation platform 'eM' 😶

Hyundai Motor Group's next-generation shared platform strategy is centered on the software-centered vehicle (SDV) strategy. SDV is a concept that controls and manages hardware (HW) with software (SW), and Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to convert its entire model lineup to SDV from 2025 last year.

For SDV development, future vehicles such as eM, a new car platform that can be shared from small to large vehicles, and eS, a platform dedicated to PBV, reduce the time and cost required for mass production from planning, design, and manufacturing of new cars, and increase cost competitiveness by reducing manufacturing costs. Securing competitiveness when converting to a system.

The Kia GT1 will be equipped with the eM platform for the first time. The Kia GT1 is a semi-large electric sedan with a body size and livability comparable to that of the K8, and is expected to be introduced in the second half of 2025 at the earliest. After GT1, the eM platform is planned to be applied and released to Genesis' new lineup GV90 (code name JG) and G70 follow-up (RN2).

Hyundai Motor Group unveiled its mid- to long-term electrification strategy in March of last year, developing two new electric vehicle platforms by 2025 and introducing the’Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA)’. IMA refers to a development system that standardizes and modularizes key electric vehicle parts such as batteries and motors by improving E-GMP, which was introduced in 2020, one step further.
